Illinois military platesThanks to Jake Zimmerman Superintendent of Kane County VAC. This means if you have 50% Service Connected VA disability you can get these plates instead of the I-Serve plates.

Here is the link to the law: which was signed into law in August of 2019 and took effect January 1, 2020. The operative language, below, allows a veteran who is 50% or more service-connected to receive one set of a military series license plates without having to pay the registration fee ($151.00). If there is another fee,  that fee must still be paid. Most folks that work at the DMV are not aware of this and all applications are processed in Special Plates Division in Springfield. Veteran who live in Kane County can apply through our office.

Sec. 3-609.3. Military series registration plates for veterans with disabilities. In lieu of receiving registration plates without the payment of a fee under Section 3-609, any veteran who holds proof of a 50% or greater service-connected disability from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs may apply for a military series registration plate in the manner prescribed by the Secretary of State.
